I find myself unable to ignore politics, and the upcoming election.
But, just posting numbers and predictions, that can get boring.
So, this week, I decided to post a fictional story.
A fictional story to explain some things is often called a parable.
So, here is my fictional story, about three fictional voters, all here in Wichita, Kansas.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at, to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off Daily Kos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on Daily Kos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
This is our current schedule of regular IAN diary writers:
Monday: Youffraita
Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac
Wednesday: Pam from Calif
Thursday: art ah zen
Friday: FloridaSNMOM
Saturday: FloridaSNDad
Sunday: loggersbrat
The little dog is named Itzl.
First, we have William.
William is a middle-aged white man.
He has always voted for Republicans.
He voted for Trump in 2016, and in 2020.
But recently, he started thinking about his family.
He has a daughter who is dating a Black young man.
He has a niece who has married a Mexican American.
So, he is starting to realize, that Trump, and many Republicans, seem to think that Black Americans and immigrants, are some kind of problem.
William is starting to realize, he needs to support his family, and turn his back on Trump and the Republicans.
He knows that here in Wichita, Kansas, it is almost guaranteed that Republican Ron Estes will get re-elected to the House, representing Wichita, and the rest of the Fourth District of Kansas.
But William has decided to vote for the Democrat, Esau Freeman: freemanforkansas.com
He knows that most likely, his vote will be pointless, since Republicans almost always win in Kansas.
But the Governor of Kansas is a Democrat, Laura Kelly.
So, anything is possible.
And, of course, thinking of his family, William will vote for the Biden/Harris ticket.
No more voting for Trump.
Next, we have Robert.
Robert is a middle-aged white man.
He has always voted for Republicans.
He voted for Trump in 2016, and in 2020.
But recently, he started thinking about his family.
He has recently realized that his teenage son is gay.
And he has a niece who is openly lesbian.
So, he is starting to realize, that Trump, and many Republicans, seem to think that lesbian and gay folks are some kind of problem.
Robert is starting to realize, he needs to support his family, and turn his back on Trump and the Republicans.

No more voting for Trump.
Next, we have James.
James is a white man, 82 years old.
He can still walk okay, but he uses a rollator, to walk to the store, and buy a few items, once a week or so.
He does not have a ramp at his front door, but he makes the rollator work anyway.
He has always voted for Republicans.
He voted for Trump in 2016, and in 2020.
But recently, he started thinking about his limitations, and the limitations of others, such as those missing a foot, for example, and using a wheelchair.
James is starting to realize, that Trump, and many Republicans, do not give a damn about folks with limitations.
Even though Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott is a paraplegic in a wheelchair.
(And Greg Abbott married a granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, by the way.)
James is starting to realize, he needs to support himself, and folks with limitations, which is everyone, (as we established recently here at IAN) and immigrants, to boot.
James has realized, he needs to turn his back on Trump and the Republicans.
He knows that here in Wichita, Kansas, it is almost guaranteed that Republican Ron Estes will get re-elected to the House, representing Wichita, and the rest of the Fourth District of Kansas.

No more voting for Trump.
By the way, the last time the Electoral College votes from Kansas went to the Democratic ticket, was 1964.
So, William, Robert, and James are aware of that, and they do not expect that to change this year.
But, since this is my fictional story, you know what I am about to write:
This November, thanks to so many voters here in Kansas who are like William, Robert, and James, in my telling of the story:
We elect Esau Freeman, to represent Wichita, and the rest of the Fourth District of Kansas, in the House, in January.
And all six Electoral College votes from Kansas will go to the Biden/Harris ticket.
And Trump will get less than 40 million votes, as he sits in his jail cell.
Ha!
Hugs.
