So Governor Corbett had a sudden conversion on some of his views on issues affecting the gay community, or the governor is kowtowing to a minority group that he and his administration has treated like shit for the past few years.  The legislation he all of the sudden supports – HB 300 – is extremely beneficial for the LGBTQ community.  The legislation would grant former Holy Ghost Prep teacher Michael Griffin workplace protections from the catholic institution, who fired Griffin for legally marrying his partner.  However the legislation is stuck in a Daryl Metcalfe’s committee.  With the legislation stuck in the bigoted and homophobic representative’s committee, the bill is likely die there until the 2015-2016 session – or longer.
Governor Corbett supporting House Bill 300 is a nothing more than a self-serving move for the 2014 election, especially since his approval rating is still in freefall, but his reasoning is quite stunning and stupid.  Like really stupid.

I’ve had people come and talk to me about how they were discriminated against. The federal government has antidiscrimination laws. I believed they covered it.
What? Is he serious? Did the governor just happen to wake up one day recently and say “God damn, the gay community isn’t protected federally?”  When did this sudden conversion happen?  Was it last week? Last month?  When Sam Smith sent this bill to die in Metcalfe’s committee? No, no and no. In my opinion, blaming his ignorance during his time as Attorney General is a lame ass excuse to whitewash his bigotry and gain votes in the 2014 election.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
