Don't shoot the messenger. But the latest Quinnipiac polls aren't showing a lot of slippage for the two highest ranking Republicans in the state, Gov. Jodi Rell and Sen. Joe Lieberman. OK, we'll call Joe a Republican sympathizer? Feel free to apply your own label, I know you want to. ;-)
Anyway:
Q Poll Story / AP (Hartford Courant)
Sure, there's a lot of time left ... or is there?
The primary is Aug. 8.
"Lieberman's numbers remain high despite his perceived closeness with President Bush, who has a 25 percent approval rating in Connecticut, according to the poll. The survey also found that 61 percent of voters oppose the Iraq war but only 15 percent would vote for a candidate based only on his or her stance on the issue.
"The poll found 90 percent of voters have not heard enough about Lamont to form an opinion."
So ... what's the strategy? Ned Lamont has nothing to prove to me, he's got my vote.
But I suspect it's going to take a LOT more money than Ned has so far to bump off Lieberman. And even with money, I suspect Ned would have to "go negative" in a way Connecticut hasn't seen since ... why, since Lieberman took down Weicker in 1988.
