... First of all, let me say that, being very busy, it is hard for me to say, here on the Internets, with any exact immediacy, that the wife-beating incident, or comment, however it is perceived, gained currency. Certainly that Sen. Lieberman does not beat his wife was very much in my mind, when I made the suggestion. And liberals should know that, because it is exactly what you expect from them. ...
... The liberals who are against Sen. Lieberman, of course, are fanatics on that one issue, and that is the issue of wife beating, and they will seize on that, knowing that the Senator, in all his years of not beating his wife, has been on their side at every instant, and it is only now that proof is demanded, as a kind of litmus test. That is not what the Democratic Party is all about, and our independent and Republican friends, who are fair minded, are not going to be fooled by the left wing crazies.
Neither Sen. Lieberman nor I have never suggested that Ned Lamont does not beat his wife, nor would we. That flyer was not authorized by me and the staffer who distributed it is of course no longer working for us, but for some other organization about which I don't know very much. Wife beating is a very sensitive issue to which I show great sensitivity, and to deny it, after all, is just a figure of speech.
Did I mention that I'm very busy, too busy to dignify these ridiculous allegations, beyond, absolutely, making sure that they are refuted, here and now, on the blogrolls, so that they will not be spurious?
I could go on, but really, other less busy people can certainly carry on from here ...
