I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to the Daily Kos community for your
endorsement.
For years, we have worked together to move progressive issues forward. We’ve fought Voter ID, we raged against poverty and income inequality and made strides towards ending prohibition, and we have done it all together.
You inform and inspire me, and you have given me access to your pages to discuss, vent, spew, and curmudgeon. More than anything, you have made me feel like I was part of something big and noble. Whenever I came back to my office in the Capitol Building in Harrisburg, cynical and tearful after losing some battle to the forces of reaction, I could click on DailyKos and take comfort i knowing that I was not alone, and that there were indeed other intelligent, progressive passionate people in the universe. This was only amplified when I attended Netroots Nation in Las Vegas in 2010.
As you know, Republicans have gerrymandered the 13th to fit as many Democrats in as humanly (or even sardine-ly) possible. While this is a bad thing, which I voted against, the one silver lining is that we have a unique opportunity to send a true progressive to Congress for years to come.
First however, I have to win my primary on May 20th. I'm running against Democrats who seem to have more in common with Republicans than members of their own party. One of my opponents is pro-life. Another has sponsored legislation to raise the retirement age to 70, and to cut Social Security benefits across the board. This is a Congressional seat that is made for a liberal, not Blue Dog and sometimes-Democrats like my opponents. It would be a travesty, and a tragic lost opportunity, to see PA-13 fall into the hands of someone with a record of actively working against our progressive values.
Your support means a great deal to me. It means that I have the support of the progressive movement behind me.
Election day is just 19 days away. We are so close to winning, but I need your help. Over the next 19 days, we need a show of force from our community. The same community that brought Elizabeth Warren to the Senate, the same community that brought Robin Kelly and Alan Grayson to Congress. I need you to sign up to volunteer help us get our message out. I need you to sign up to volunteer to help contact voters, and I need you to pitch in $5, $10, all the way up to $2,600 (to give you a range) or whatever you can afford to help us beat back the attacks from our opponents and get out our message.
Thanks again for all of your support. Together, we can make real change. I look forward to working with all of you for years to come
Daylin
